# 5 Signs Your AC Needs Repair (Before It Quits on the Hottest Day)

Air conditioners rarely fail without warning. Catch these five signs early and you'll usually pay for a repair instead of a replacement.

## 1. Warm or lukewarm air

If the system runs but the air isn't cold, you could be looking at low refrigerant, a failing compressor, or a dirty coil. Low refrigerant always means a leak — topping it off without finding the leak is money wasted.

## 2. Weak airflow

Check the filter first. If a clean filter doesn't fix it, the blower motor or ductwork may be the problem.

## 3. Short cycling

An AC that turns on and off every few minutes is under stress. Causes range from an oversized unit to a failing capacitor — and short cycling will wear out the compressor fast if ignored.
